children dimotivated to go to school |
Constraints within the South African education system, such as poorly trained teachers in subjects like Mathematics, have resulted in many poorly prepared high school learners and a high rate of failure. Researchers say that learners, particularly in the higher grades, are underperforming especially in terms of Mathematics results. This is due to the fact that the current teachers, especially in key subjects, lack the required skills and subject knowledge aimed for effective teaching and learning. Children from disadvantaged areas such as the Western Cape Province are demotivated to go to school due to the reality of poverty. As a result, these children do not see any reason to go to school, and as such they end up involved in illegal activities and these results in a high dropout rate. According to Prof Jansen a possible solution to this problem is to provide useful and necessary resources to disadvantaged learners.
Their see no reason to go to school as a result they end up involved in substance abuse because they have nothing better to to. |
